Biotin (20 mg per scoop)

Biotin is a water soluble B-group vitamin, and is a crucial co-factor in hoof keratination. This sulfur-containing vitamin is especially important for the maintenance of hooves. And, it is significant for the health of all connective tissue structures. It stimulates keratin production in the hoof, hoof wall, sole and frog. In addition, there is an added benefit of improvement of the horse’s general appearance and luster.

Horses with poor quality hooves may benefit from supplementation at 20 mg daily. Higher doses are suggested for horses receiving little or no grain.

Biotin is beneficial for hooves that are shelly and brittle. Methionine (4,000 mg per scoop), Lysine (2,000 mg per scoop) Methionine and Lysine are two essential amino acids. They are often deficient in equine feeds. And indications of deficiency are… poor quality hoof, skin and coat, as well as tendon and ligament problems. Delayed wound-healing and low tolerance to stress and exercise are also signs of deficiency.

These amino acids are key components of the protein Keratin, ‘the major protein in hoof horn’. They are vital building blocks in the construction of the hoof. These crucial building blocks must be present to ensure full utilization of Biotin.

Methionine is a sulfur-containing amino acid, essential for formation of strong hooves. Lysine is the first key to unlocking protein efficiency.

Zinc (300 mg per scoop). Copper (100 mg per scoop), Manganese (200 mg per scoop)

These chelated trace minerals are micronutrients. They’re essential for proper functioning of many enzyme systems, and play a part in the formation of keratin and collagen, which are vital for healthy hooves, hair and skin. A deficiency in any one of these nutrients will impact the efficiency of the others. Supplemental zinc and copper, in the proper ratio, can substantially improve the body’s ability to grow and heal hoof tissues. It is critical to maintain a 3:1 zinc:copper ratio, in order to sustain optimum absorption.

Manganese and Zinc are co-factors to anti-oxidant enzyme systems, known to be important for hoof health. Manganese levels in many common diets are likely to be incomplete. Copper deficiency may play a role in the development of arthritis, tendon and ligament problems, as well as hoof problems.

MSM (5000 mg per scoop)

MSM is one of nature’s best sources of dietary sulfur. Inadequate amounts will lead to poor hoof strength, tendon and ligament weakness, as well as poor joint cartilage quality.

Kelp (8,000 mg per scoop)

Kelp is an excellent form of multi-vitamin and hoof supplement. It contains balanced quantities of essential minerals such as iron, selenium, iodine, sulfur, copper, magnesium and zinc. As well as, beta carotene, Vitamins C, D and E, B1 and B2, niacin, and up to twenty different amino acids.

Brewers’ Yeast (5000 mg per scoop)

This natural supplement promotes gut health improving digestion and nutrient availability. Yeast is an excellent source of B vitamins, complementing Biotin. Contains all of the B-complex vitamins.
